about

Composed by: Steve Reich (b.1936)
Arranged by: Felix Salazar

Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint was commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival for guitarist Pat Metheny. Although the original requires thirteen parts (11 guitars and 2 basses), this adaptation for eight (6 guitars, 1 bass, and 1 tap guitar) manages to maintain as many as nine canonical voices at a time. The contrapuntal themes, metric modulations, and infectious grooves of the third movement make Electric Counterpoint one of the foremost pieces written for electric guitar ensemble.
